Relief Print Personal Stamp Design

This is my second attempt at creating a personalized relief print stamp. This bunny has her eyes closed - and she's as crooked as she can possibly be! Practice makes better, right!? :)

Linocut Relief Print Prototype

What's happening in the art room today?

A prototype of a relief print, of course! This print is as large as my entire thumb. I'll keep working on the design - I have more linoleum left from a project I worked on the past two days (a "secret project" that will be revealed in time - probably a few weeks from now). I enjoy my new Speedball linoleum carving tools. I'm glad I made the purchase.

Speedball Relief Printmaking Supplies

I am now stepping into the world of relief printmaking. I picked up a beginners Speedball kit and a piece of 5"x7" unmounted linoleum. I thought I made some prints in junior high, because I remember carving linoleum (and the smell!), but I don't have the prints.

I am participating in the Birdmas art challenge hosted by artist Levi Richards in the beginning of December; she'll make an official announcement closer to December. It's only a 12 day challenge (opposed to inktober - 31 days) so I'm hoping not to lose interest. And I just may have some pretty birds to create relief prints for in the end.

I'll be sharing my printmaking journey also - So stay tuned... and stay creative!

Finetec German Mica Watercolors

Hi Everyone!

I picked up some high quality mica watercolors by Finetec last week. I was amazed to learn that these cakes are hand-made in Germany! Aren't the best paints hand made? :) My color-swatches are incredible. I drooled with each wash.

I thought I'd experiment with the colors on my new leaves designs.

These paints are also going to be absolutely perfect for calligraphic writing, especially since they are light-fast.

The black is not pearlescent. It's velvet and luscious! It will be fun to explore under-washes with this color. I have a feeling it's going to be great for details also.

Here are some shots of the paints and my process. Enjoy!

Printmaking Christmas Cards 2017

Merry Christmas!

As some of you already know, I love to make art. This year I purchased some block printmaking supplies and my first project was to create Christmas Cards. This process took a handful of hours to complete. It was a lot of fun!

Here are the steps I took to make relief monoprint Christmas cards this year.

The essence of each step is explained in each image caption.

Draw, trace and rub design onto linoleum.

Carve the lino.

Ink up the plate, roller and lino.

Hand press the lino to the
acid free paper to transfer the image.

I inspected the first print (proof)
for any corrections to make.

After corrections are made, I began printing all the
cards with light-fast ink.

I line up the cards to dry.

Lastly, I hand-painted the details
using mica watercolors.
Each print is unique because it is hand-printed. This uniqueness is cherished among print-makers. Each print is called an "Original Print". The entirety of the prints is called an "Edition" or "Variable Edition". If you received a Christmas card from me this year, you have a Tawnya Boe Original! :) Thanks for stopping by and I wish you all a happy and peaceful season.

Tawnya Boe Art Shop is OPEN!

Happy day everyone!

These past couple of weeks have been a nice break from inktober for me, but I have still been a busy bee in the art room. Today I officially announce that Tawnya Boe Art Shop is open.

Many of my inktober designs are now available as 5x7 inch prints or A2 greeting-cards in my shop. I also have a couple non-inktober designs ready to find new homes (more designs to come). And I have to say, while wiping a happy tear from my eye, they turned out beautifully! :)

To celebrate my store opening, shipping is free for orders to Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa in the United States.
