Found My Bliss - Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 30: found.

This illustration is tiny - no more than 4.5 inches tall - and this measure includes the banner. Not a lot of room for detail. The cat is 1 inch from tip of ear to bottom of tail. It's a representation of myself doing what I love most.

Must Feed The Queen - Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 29: united.

This was inspired by a program my husband and I watched on lice. It was gross. :)

The Blind Trickster - Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 24: blind.

Cat is on to the Mouse's game. Rabbit isn't so sure Mouse should be smiling at this point. Haha...

Furious and Frustrated Fairy - Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 21: Furious.

Try as she might, she just can't get off the ground with those tiny wings. This makes her feel furious and frustrated.

A Deep Bond Between Creatures - Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 20: deep.

Again, I was inspired by a scene in Harry Potter, Specifically when he creates a level of trust with the hippogriff during class. Then, Hagrid lifts Harry onto the hippogriff and they take flight. During the flight, Harry sits up straight and spreads his arms. To me, that signified a deep bond or trust between the two. And, I suppose this rabbit has a deep bond with a centaur who lives in the same forest he does.

Castle in the Sky - Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 19: clouds.

This prompt was a good opportunity to practice stylized clouds. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. I look forward to more practice in other illustrations.

Filthy Gringotts Goblin - Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 18: filthy.

Do you remember this shop in Harry Potter? I was inspired as I watched the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone last night. My favorite goblin is the first one they speak with in Gringott's bank. I thought "Filthy rich goblins" ...even though they only worked at the bank. So, I created my own little spin. This goblin is stealing wands from Ollivander's shop. My goblin turned out to look a bit more like Dobby than the goblin I was trying to represent. Haha..

Graceful Greenhouse Cat - Ink Painting

Inktober 2017, day 17: graceful.

The spirit of inktober seems to give permission to some artists to experiment and veer away from their traditional methods. I also permitted myself to explore. This illustration is painted with an assortment of inks. It was an experiment I've wanted to try for a while. The paper I used is rough Saunders Waterford watercolor 200 lb. stock. I really enjoy working on the cream color.

Fat Forest Witch and Two Familiars - Pen and Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 16: fat.

It's a great month to explore 'spooky' effects. This piece was great for discovery. I realized that I had a bottle of extra fine graphite in my supply drawer. So I used this with a soft fine painting brush to give the forest a mystical, night-mist sense. Well, that's what I was shooting for. I think I succeeded. I also wanted to create a vignette effect around the witch, which makes her pop a bit more.

The Tiny Fierce Elf - Pen and Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 14: fierce.

I thought to draw a bear or lion for the word fierce, but then this little girl popped into mind. I really enjoy the stippling this year. Although, on the elf-girl's face the stipple look like freckles. That's cute too. :)

Beatrice Bunny - Pen and Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 11: run.

Beatrice Bunny hesitates before leaving for the evening because she realized there is a "run" in her stockings.

I really love how this piece turned out. I wanted an organic shape that sumi-e ink gives so freely. The results of monochrome and color reflected in the looking glass reminds me a bit of the original American film, Wizard of Oz. The beginning of the film is in black-and-white.

Gigantic Jewelled Fairy-Wings - Pen and Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 10: gigantic.

...and back to drawing wings! This little fairy has a big job to do - deliver the jewels embedded in her wings. But she has a huge problem. Her wings are gigantic and they keep her from flying properly!

Crooked Little Witch-Girl - Pen and Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 8: crooked.

What? $100 for an over-played magic trick? Forget it Crooked Little Witch-Girl!

There is still a bunny in the drawing, but I craved something new. Inspiration was leaving. ...so back to my old principle of creating art - no rules. :-)

Shy Lop Rabbit - Pen and Ink Drawing

Inktober 2017, day 7: shy.

My character is a shy lop rabbit, but she turned out more like the "Poochie" the American stuffed animal from the 1980's, which was actually a dog.

Poison Ivy Bunny - Pen and Ink Drawing

Inktober, day 3. "Poison". I'm trying to stay true to my theme of 'bunnies' in combination with the official prompts of 2017 inktober. Meet Poison-Ivy bunny! She loves midday walks through bushes of poison ivy. Actually, she loves poison ivy so much that she even quilts her aprons with poison-ivy applique.

Bunny Has Divided Attention - Pen and Ink Drawing

The Inktober prompt for today is "divided". Mr. Bunny, henceforth, will have divided attention. I took inspiration from George Bickham's compendium from year 1733 "The Universal Penman" for my Latin banner and marble stage.
